“And you thought your job was hell.”
The first six episodes of Necessary Evil, a darkly comic webseries about literal corporate hell, have just been released to the world. Necessary Evil tells the story of a low-level demon at Hell LLP who is mysteriously promoted to CEO. Suddenly he must navigate a very different world of office politics, deal with new, powerful adversaries, and figure out why he was chosen. A dark workplace comedy mixed with explorations of morality, self-awareness and a philosophical exploration of the nature of good and evil, Necessary Evil explores the tension between doing the easy thing and doing the right thing. The cast includes guest appearances by Mark Meer, best known as Commander Shepard in BioWare’s Mass Effect video game series, and Trevor Devall who writes and voices for Marvel Animation Studios in Los Angeles. Necessary Evil is just beginning the festival circuit and has already been an official selection of the Edmonton International Film Festival and the Blood In The Snow Canadian Film Festival. The journey to the screen has spanned more than five years, with various smaller projects in the story world being produced including a pilot webisode, the mockumentary short film Recruiting Hell, and the Instagram-only Hellevator Project. These projects have earned several Rosie nominations, and have screened at festivals across Canada, in Romania and Brazil. This marks the largest and most ambitious project in this story universe to date. You can find all six episodes of Necessary Evil below, and see more about the project aon Facebook, and on Instagram where you can also watch the entire Hellevator Project.
