We have news today, via The Hollywood Reporter, that New Line Cinema is rebooting the Final Destination franchise, which began in 2000 with the James Wong-directed first entry.
The film starred Devon Sawa, who's character has a premonition of a horrific plane crash, he cheats his own death and saves several other lives’ in the process, only to have Death hunt them down, one by one. The previous film in the franchise, 2011's Final Destination 5, was directed by Steven Quale.
New Line has hired Saw sequel writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to pen the film's script.
The film is being described as a re-imagining of the franchise, but no further plot details were revealed.
The site notes, Melton and Dunstan are horror vets best known for penning four of the Saw movies. They were winners on season three of "Project Greenlight" and also wrote Piranha 3DD. They penned the upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for CBS Films and are working with horror producers Platinum Dunes on an untitled Christmas horror project set up at Sony and The Reckoning at Paramount.
