Throughout his acting career, Bingo O'Malley worked with fellow Pittsburgh native George A. Romero on a few films, taking on the role of Sheriff Rilly in 1981’s Knightriders, followed by a small appearance in Creepshow as Jordy’s father. O'Malley also starred in the Romero/Dario Argento collaboration Two Evil Eyes, wherein he played Ernest Valdemar, the title character in one segment.
Sadly, we've learned this afternoon that Bingo O'Malley passed away this past Sunday in Bethel Park, PA, where he had been in hospice care. O'Malley was 86 years old.
"He was so absolutely grounded in any moment, you couldn’t take your eyes off him," says Melissa Martin, a writer and director who first met O’Malley in the ’80s. "Everybody wanted Bingo for every role he was right for."
In addition to the aforementioned films, O'Malley also starred in 2009’s My Bloody Valentine as Officer Hinch and he later played Mr. Harkin in J.J. Abrams’ Super 8, He most recently starred in the thriller A Fancy Piece of Homicide.
