With Adam Robitel's Escape Room pulling in $118.6 million at the worldwide box office on a $9m production budget, it came as no surprise when it was announced that Columbia Pictures was developing a sequel to the film, which Robitel will return to direct.
Exhibitor Relations now reports that the sequel (currently known as Escape Room 2) is now unlocking on August 14th, 2020, pushing it back nearly four months from its initial April 17th, 2020 release date.
Plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps, but given the intense escape room scenario set up for the survivors of the first movie, we *possibly* know where things could pick up.
The first film followed six strangers who find themselves in a maze of deadly rooms, and must use their wits to find the clues or die.
Escape Room 2 is being penned by the returning Bragi F. Schut and produced by Neal H. Moritz.
