Various reports were swirling around the web last month that actor/filmmaker Andy Serkis was in contention to direct Tom Hardy in Sony’s Venom 2, and THR confirms tonight that he will indeed be doing just that!
Serkis is of course known for his incredible motion capture performances in The Lord of the Rings as Gollum/Smeagol and in the new Planet of the Apes films as Caesar. He also recently directed Netflix’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
THR notes, "[Serkis’s] expertise with CG and performance capture technology is one of the factors that landed him the Venom 2 gig."
"Verified It’s actually happening. I can feel it, the Symbiote has found a host in me, and I’m ready for the ride...Can’t wait," Serkis wrote on Instagram.
The sequel’s script was written by Kelly Marcel. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will return as producers.
Ruben Fleischer helmed the 2018 movie, which grossed a massive $855 million worldwide and set the stage for Woody Harrelson to appear in Venom 2 as Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage.
