It's now been confirmed that the title for next year’s Jason Reitman-directed sequel to the original Ghostbusters will be Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and today we've learned the film's trailer will be released on Monday, December 9th!
To tide us all over until then, Vanity Fair has shared some first-look images from the film, which can be seen below along with a new teaser poster showcasing the triumphant return of Ecto-1. The photos offer up a look at much of the film's main cast, including Paul Rudd as Mr. Grooberson, and Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard as siblings Phoebe and Trevor, respectively.
Reitman tells the site, "Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves."
In the film, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
In addition to Rudd, Grace and Wolfhard, most of the original cast members from the classic films are expected to return, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts.
Carrie Coon, Oliver Cooper, Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim will also star in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.
Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 director and Jason's father, Ivan Reitman, is producing the new film.
The Ghostbusters will return to theaters on July 10th, 2020.
