2019 was an excellent year for Billie Eilish, what with the release of her debut studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and said album and contents crushing the competition at this year’s Grammy awards. The singer, freshly eighteen years young, is now the latest musical Bond girl of sorts, as she has been tapped to sing the title theme for the upcoming James Bond film, No Time to Die.
The song is, admittedly, a departure from Eilish’s typical style, with “No Time to Die” featuring a slow build into an orchestral swell all too familiar to Bond theme songs. Nevertheless, Billie’s unmistakable vocals sound right at home here, powering the theme for what will be the twenty-fifth James Bond film. Produced by Billie’s older brother Phineas, the song even has the signature minor ninth chord from damn near every Bond theme before it.
No Time to Die will be Daniel Craig’s sixth film in the role of Ian Fleming’s legendary double agent. The film is directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective season 1, IT Chapter One), and is now set for a November 2020 release, in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
