Daveed Diggs, the orator of industrial hip-hop threesome clipping., is on his way to a stellar 2020. After last year’s incredible album There Existed an Addiction to Blood, the rapper and producer starred in TNT’s television adaptation of Snowpiercer, and his originating role as Thomas Jefferson in the smash musical Hamilton will hit Disney+ the day before Independence Day.
As for the musical side of Diggs, he and his co-conspirators put out a blistering new single for the times we live in, titled “Chapter 319.” Even before I listened to the track, I was seeing TikTok videos with this searing couplet featured:
“Donald Trump is a white supremacist, FULL STOP,
If you vote for him again, you’re a white supremacist, FULL STOP.”
The B-side for the single is the previously unreleased “Knees on the Ground,” previously recorded back in 2014 and released on SoundCloud. Clipping’s sales of the single on Juneteenth were committed to several projects, including the GoFundMe for George Floyd’s daughter (the Official Gianna Floyd Fund), People’s Breakfast Oakland, The Okra Project, and Afrorack, while Bandcamp’s usual cut of sales went to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, as part of their Juneteenth initiative. Going forward, sales of the single will be periodically collected and donated to “organizations dedicated to racial justice.”
“Chapter 319” is available now on the group’s Bandcamp profile. Listen to it below:
