The Dark Order's "Exalted One" Brodie Lee Is the New AEW TNT Champion [Video]

To call this weekend a busy one for wrestling fans in a gross understatement. Tonight alone, between the two major American promotions, there was NXT TakeOver XXX, which promised a new NXT North American Champion, and a special Saturday edition of AEW Dynamite, being pushed back due to the ongoing NBA Playoffs. The main event of the latter pitted reigning TNT Champion Cody face off with the leader of the cult-like Dark Order, “The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee.

The match would be Cody’s ninth defense of the TNT Title, having defended it damn near every week since winning the gold at Double or Nothing over Memorial Day weekend, defeating Lance Archer in the tournament final to crown the inaugural champion. This showdown would, however, be his last, as Lee went on to shockingly squash “The Prince of Pro Wrestling,” knocking off The American Nightmare in a matter of minutes. Capping the match off with his signature Discus Lariat, Brodie Lee notched the win and his first taste of AEW gold, as well as his first taste of any championship gold in over three years.

Following the match, The Dark Order leveled the rest of the Nightmare Family, including head coach Arn Anderson, brother Dustin Rhodes, best friend QT Marshall, and even wife and AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes, who had already competed in the finals of the Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament the match prior. After not being able to buy a major win, between Evil Uno and Stu Grayson’s failed bid for the Tag Team Titles, and Lee’s previous challenge for the AEW World Championship, the massive cult has finally made a sizeable mark on the upstart promotion. The show ended with the Nightmare Family laid out, as Brodie Lee held his newly-won TNT Title high.
