[Trailer] Capcom Announces 'Resident Evil 4' Remake, Arriving March 2023!

What're ya buyin'?

After years of rumors and anticipation, Capcom has officially announced a remake of Resident Evil 4!

The announcement was made during Sony's State of Play livestream event this evening, where they debuted an initial trailer for the remake and the confirmation of a release on March 24th, 2023.

It was also revealed that both the RE4 remake and Resident Evil Village will be receiving VR support via PlayStation VR2, although a release date has yet to be revealed.

Created in the same vein as the recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident 3, the trailer for the reimagined version of Capcom's survival horror classic showcases the game's vastly improved graphics, but like the remakes before it, it'll feature substantial changes to the original game in terms of gameplay and story.

Capcom revealed more about the RE4 remake over on the PlayStation Blog.

"When it first came out, Resident Evil 4 revolutionized the Resident Evil franchise with its new game-style that combined action, shooting, and resource management elements, subsequently setting the standard for future Resident Evil titles."

"This time, the game is being developed to achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023, while preserving the essence of the original game. We aim to make the game feel familiar to fans of the series, while also providing a fresh feeling to it. This is being done by reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics and updating the controls to a modern standard."

The Resident Evil 4 remake is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

Resident Evil 4 joins Leon S. Kennedy six years after his hellish experiences in the biological disaster of Raccoon City. His unmatched resolve caused him to be recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president of the United States. With the experience of multiple missions on his back, Leon is dispatched to rescue the president’s recently kidnapped daughter. Leon tracks her to a secluded European village, however after making first contact he discovers a fervor beyond reason grips the local populace.

Now, this reimagined tale of survival in the face of overwhelming terror returns to deliver a visually stunning modern gaming experience that is true to the promise of the original release. Many team members from the production of 2019’s top-selling and critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 also make their return to delve deeper into the essence of Resident Evil 4. Fans and newcomers alike can revel in both the new and familiar, as RE Engine heightens the original’s creative direction to tell a story that is darker and even more unsettling.

Resident Evil 4, widely considered to be the best game in the franchise, was first released back in 2005 on GameCube, initially as a platform exclusive, and it was an instant hit. RE4 was later ported to PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Windows PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
