“My mother always tells me to smile and put on a happy face.”
This coming October, Todd Phillips is bringing the Joker back to the big screen with Joaquin Phoenix playing Arthur Fleck, a new take on DC's iconic villain. The first trailer for the film has been released, revealing a very different feel from previous comic book movies. We also get to feast our ears on Phoenix's maniacal laugh for the character!
I really admire DC's approach with the film, pulling on heartstrings and attempting to make viewers sympathize with the villain.
Joker also stars Frances Conroy, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Brett Cullen, Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), Glenn Fleshler (“True Detective”), Josh Pais (“Ray Donovan”) and Douglas Hodge (“Penny Dreadful”).
Phillips directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Silver. The film is produced by Phillips and Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort banner, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. It’s executive produced by Richard Baratta, Joseph Garner and Bruce Berman.
Warner Bros. will unleash Joker in theaters on October 4th.
