'Suspiria' Remake Writer David Kajganich To Adapt Cannibal Novel 'Bones & All'

April 9, 2019

After writing last year's phenomenal Suspiria (read our review) remake, David Kajganich is next working on another genre film, as he's been brought on to adapt Camille DeAngelis’ coming-of-age cannibal novel, Bones & All, Deadline reports.

Antonio Campos (The Sinner, Christine) will direct the film.

The story follows 16-year-old Maren Yearly on a cross-country as she searches through dark, unseen corners of America to find a father she’s never met in an attempt to understand why she has killed a series of friends and acquaintances and why she will kill again.

“Since she was a baby, Maren has had what you might call “an issue” with affection. Anytime someone cares for her too much, she can’t seem to stop herself from eating them. Abandoned by her mother at the age of 16, Maren goes looking for the father she has never known, but finds more than she bargained for along the way. Faced with love, fellow eaters, and enemies for the first time in her life, Maren realizes she isn’t just looking for her father, she is looking for herself. The real question is, will she like the girl she finds?”

“We’ve all become used to the status quo of jump-scare horror, but this is a story with something so disquieting, tense, and human at its center, it will give us the chance to engage the genre aggressively from the side of character,” said Kajganich. “Camille’s book is a knockout, unlike anything we’ve read, and making this adaptation with Theresa [Park] and Antonio–two friends whose integrity and daring I love so much–means we will really be swinging for the fences.”
