Four years after the release of his directorial debut The Witch, director Robert Eggers has re-teamed with genre production company A24 for a new feature titled The Lighthouse, an upcoming fantasy-horror film that Eggers wrote and directed.
The film, which stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson and was shot on 35mm black and white stock, recently premiered at Cannes, where it received high praise from critics.
A24 describes The Lighthouse as a "hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s."
You can watch the first trailer below, which showcases phenomenal performances by Dafoe and Pattinson, and their decent into utter insanity. The footage show is very brief and mysterious, so you don't have to worry about spoilers. Let's hope things stay that way up until the film's release!
The film, written by Robert and Max Eggers and also starring Valeriia Karaman, is headed to TIFF next month and will be released on October 18th, 2019 in NY and LA, with an expansion to follow.
