Violence, Sex And Debauchery Disrupt Quiet Farm Life In 'Tennessee Gothic'

October 13, 2019

From Ray Russell, fiction editor of Playboy Magazine, and author of horror classics such as Incubus, Sardonicus and The Case Against Satan, comes Tennessee Gothic, a feature-length horror/comedy photographed on 16mm film.

The film was adapted from Russell's short story, American Gothic, and brought to the screen by multi-award-winning filmmaker Jeff Wedding (A Measure of the Sin). Watch the trailer below.

"Tennessee Gothic is an audacious look at farm life told through the eyes of Caleb (William Ryan Watson), the teenage son of a dim-witted widower (Victor Hollingsworth)."

In the film, when a beautiful young woman (Jackie Kelly) is found bloodied on a country road, a farmer and his son offer her refuge in their home. This living situation quickly escalates from hysterical comedy to maddening horror once the woman's true nature is revealed.

"Growing up, we didn't have much money in the house, but my father somehow convinced my mother that having cable TV and HBO took priority over other expenses. I couldn't have agreed with him more," Wedding said in a statement. "Raised in the 1980s on an endless diet of teen sex comedies and horror, I was armed with a more than adequate knowledge base when it came time to roll camera on what I believe to be an outrageously funny, at times grotesque, and almost always ridiculously debaucherous motion picture."

GypsyRoot Releasing will present the North American Premiere of Tennessee Gothic at the historic Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, TN on October 15th 2019, followed by a VOD and Special Edition Blu-ray release that same day.
